Behind the camera

About Emran

The nikkahnama will hold your signatures. Your photographs can hold the way your parents looked at you as you signed. I watch for that connection between the ceremony itself and the people who give it meaning.

I am Emran, and I photograph Muslim weddings in Toronto with a calm, documentary approach. At a home or masjid nikkah, I work carefully around the ceremony and make space for family portraits afterward. At the walima, I follow the greetings, speeches and unplanned reactions. I give gentle direction when it helps, without asking the day to stop for the camera.

I speak English and Bangla and am comfortable with the different rhythms of Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Arab and multicultural Muslim families. The person you speak to about your wedding is the person who photographs it and edits your gallery. Tell me about your nikkah, your reception and the people you want beside you in the photographs.
